yes the z06 sounds extremely mean in person, even next to a viper. however both cars are just beasts.

if u guys had seen that c6 z06 video from Motor Trend showing the car goin from 0 mph to ~200mph, u will see that the car reaches 200 with 5th gear. this thread is still in the "car talk" forum, just look for it and u'll see it.

5th gear pull was amazing because of how fast it got back into the powerband. i mean compared to, say, an m3; i can start in 4th gear; it just takes forever to get the car to start moving. with a pretty limited amount of road, the c6z startin in 5th gear still reached 150 mph +. that's just crazy IMHO.

I thought it was a very positive review also. Who cares if Jeremy doesn't consider it a daily driver - his back is shot anyway.

I suspect the Z06's top speed is hit in 6th. Some cars hit top speed in top gear, others one less than.
no, the it hits top speed in 5th. I am almost 100% positive.

Yes, C6's hit top speed in 5th (the Z51 actually attributes a lower 5th gear to a higher top speed) with 6th really for highway use.

That's what I get for assuming Top Gear has their facts straight. They said 175 in 5th so I assumed it needs 6th to get to 198.

Yeah, the Z06 theoretically does like 330mph in 6th gear. It is good for gas mileage and that's about it. The C6 and Z06 are really 5 speed transmissions with overdrive.

Yeah, I know the regular C6's top speed is in 5th. As I said, it is common for cars to go faster in the second from top gear as the last ratio is often selected for mileage. However I wasn't sure about the Z06 as it has soo much power. I also assumed Top Gear meant the car red lined in 5th at 175. However, having pulled out an issue of C&D I see that 5th redlines at 212 and 6th at, as you said, 315.
I did know that the Vette transmission is a double overdrive unit. Fourth is the 1:1 ratio. As opposed to the more common 5th being 1:1 in a 6spd box.
Again, that's what I get for assuming TG had their facts right.

Once again, TG manages to take a fantastic automobile and gripe about and completely exaggerate absurdly trivial things.

The radio sucks. The steering wheel's on the wrong side. Tire noise is deafening. "As something to live with every day, I'd rather have bird flu".

...says the man with two Corvettes in his driveway. Ok, i understand that they whine about American cars, but the points he made (excluding steering wheel on the wrong side) are all valid points. Whether or not we think they are that significant, no one can refute the rough ride, lower end interior materials and loud noises.

That video makes me want to own that car.

It seems like it is just so outrageous to deny.

Id need a GT body kit put on it so I can really pose it up.

What a monster! Lucky us.
