dunno....

but in the video you posted (from a dig), the M6 looks wickedly fast compared to the 996TT.

M6 looks to be about 1sec quicker to distance than the TT...TT's were/are 12 sec cars, no?

(use the timer in the media player)

C6 Z06 - 3100 lbs, 505 hp = 6.1 lbs per horsepower. MUCH MUCH MUCH faster than the M6.

Not the only factors though. Gearing, SMG & the fact that the M6 has launch control feature would have a big effect in 060 & 1/4 mile times. If they can get a consistent relitively easy perfect launch off the line every time I wouldn't be surprised if the 0-60 & 1/4 mile times of these 2 cars are similar, though the Vette will have a larger trap speed.

Launch control is a great feature. In an article comparing the Ford GT vs. the F430 they did a test with the F430 without LC, and then with it on. The 0-60 & 1/4 mile times went down about .2-.3 sec. pretty much across the board. Too bad Ferrari thought we were too stupid to have this feature in the US.

The dig with the 996 would say otherwise. You have to figure the turbo did not launch as well as possible -- which I surmise having spent a couple nights at the 1/4 track in mine. You generally either bog or hop unless you slip the expensive clutch.

If launch control could not overcome even a not so great launch from the turbo I would imagine the Z06 guys who cut 2.0 60's like beans give me gas will easily outrun the M6 from any speed to any other.

Again -- just speculation.

When we were over in Palmdale (a track with terrible traction) a while back there was a guy with a 996 TT that was killing people with great 60ft. times that nobody else got. He simply did a high RPM clutch drop, and let the AWD catch traction faster then everybody else. Probably didn't care about his clutch, or even if you see the 911 TT X50 vs. Viper 0-100-0 test a while back ago in Road & Track (which the X50 won). The 911TT was getting to 100 faster because of superior traction, but the Viper was catching up at speed. Also have a video of a Viper running an X50 on an open road twice. Both times the 911 TT blows the Viper off the line, and get's caught by the Viper. Traction is one of the TT's strong points if done right. Can basically smoke most RWD cars in it's category because of it.
