I guess we have differing views. Even with the base Boxster, I see it much more desirable than this. Sure, it'd be slower, but has better steering feel, driving dynamics, exterior style, etc. To each his/her own, I guess. I've seen plenty of 135i in person; and to the average Joe, it looks like an economy car. This 1M has a few add-ons.

I simply cannot get over its looks, esp. the side profile. Anyway, moving on...
i think you're missing the point. this car will appeal to someone who wants a super performer with the practicality of backseats and a bigger trunk then those offered by cars like the cayman and z4M, without having to pay M3 + prices. there are really few cars out there that offer this. this car will also mainly appeal to diehard bmw fans. someone who just wants a fast powerful car will most likely shop elsewhere. so would those that want a pretty car, like yourself. you have to look at this car like you would look at the evo or sti; sure they are not the prettiest of cars, but they sure are beasts, and they each are desirable to the right individuals.

How do you know this? Have you driven it? I know you're going to say "I drove the 135i so I know how it will feel" or something along those lines, but haven't the countless posts in here said that there is a huge difference between the regular version and the S version in Porsche's lineup? Why won't that hold true for BMW? Especially when the M models have always been that much better in dynamics.

These are the same people that have never actually driven a Cayman or Boxster.
I've driven both models and found the base almost as satisfying as the S model; but that's just driving on the streets. I've driven neither on a track, so can't speak to that. Also, the non-S model was plenty peppy.

well, I agree he hasn't driven the 1M, obviously.

But I don't think what he is saying is a stretch, either...the Cayman S is MR, the 1M is FR. The Cayman S is a known quantity in terms of steering and driving dynamics, and it is truly a world class car in those areas. The 135i lost to the base Cayman in a comparison test because of the driving experience (not straight line speed).
I don't believe there is a single M car that offers a porsche-like gearbox, either.

Most people would probably agree (take out the fanbois on either side) that the Cayman S is superior to any BMW product in terms of steering and dynamics (not necessarily faster)...I highly doubt the 1M will be substantially better (or maybe not even as good) as the M3 and M5.

No, I have not; nobody on here has. However, I can tell you this much - not many cars have better steering feel and driving dynamics than the Boxster/Cayman duo. Moreover, the 1M is going to weigh 3300-3400lbs, which is some 300-400 heavier than the mentioned duo.

Again, it's just my opinion (that I find this car much less desirable than other cars in the same price range $40-50K). Who's gonna throw racial epithets at me like the other Audi fanboi because of my opinion?
