This is pretty common here in Cali. I know several people that work for Honda R&D and they get to drive these "wacky" cars around for research purposes. The cars rarely stay here for long and are usually only driven around the Torrance area where Honda R&D is located. Same goes for Toyota R&D, they get to drive around in jdm spec models that are never seen or sold here as part of their job.

It all depends on what you are looking for in a car. I wouldn't mind having that as my commuter car and save my S2000 for some fun weekend driving.

The Beat is no longer produced (stopped in 1994). I believe it is a Japanese "K-class" car, which means they are very small.
Length: 3.295m
Width: 1.395m
Height: 1.175m
Weight: 760kg

Engine: 656cm2 (3 cylinders)
Power: 64PS@8100rpm
Torque: 6.1kg@7000rpm

Tires: 155/65R13 front, 165/60R14 rear

Mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, 5-speed manual transmission. 2-seat convertable.

Last I looked, it was still on the front page of the Honda Japan web site:

Thanks, wicky for bringing this fun little car to our attention.

I'd hate to be in that thing in a head-on accident.

The EMT guys never like to socialize when I go for rides ni the ambulance. They're always so serious.

Ya, and the collapsing legs on the wheeled stretchers never close as smoothly as you see in the movies. Adds to the experience, but at the same time it jiggles bits of you that you wish had not been jiggled.

exactly. My stretcher was like some 15th century torture device, it didn't jiggle, and was quite jarring!
