No offense but the bimmer is a fantastic, fun to drive, rare, unique, POS. I'd personally take one over an RX-8 of the same value as well, but most people do not realize the additional maint./hassle/etc. that a 10 year old M3 is going to bring. It's also very, very difficult to find a 99 M3 1 or two owner that hasn't been beaten on for a less than ridiculous price. I tried and gave up!

I hear ya, but remember the S isn't exactly lighting the world on fire with 0-60 times either. My general point is, anyhing under 6 s to 60 is fast. My main issue is with people who call an RX-8 slow - its not.

To the OP - where is your brother looking, anyway? That may effect your choice as well.
He is in Chicago.

Also, we have a one-owner E36 M3 in our family.

I think that he is going to go with the RX-8.

Thanks!

Beat me to it. The M3 is a great car, but I dunno if it'd be advisable for someone on a fixed budget because the bimmers can be costly to operate. In that regard, you're no better off getting that over the RX.

Wait, there's a car thats not designed to consume fuel? Like an electrioc car? What's your point?
It also consumes oil during the combustion cycle by design to lubricate the seals. It's not a huge amount, but you must check it each fill up until you know the car and then every other fill up after - depending on how hard you run it.

Most burn a quart every 3K miles, about as much as some AP1's.... As for the flooding issue, it can be fixed with a reflash of the ECU at the dealer for early models.

RX8, without a doubt, for sportiness. G35 for speed and other grand touring aspects. Without even thinking about it, my choice would be the RX8, closest to the S2000 while having 4 seats.

Well the E36 M3 is about a second faster in the quarter mile than the RX-8, and you can absolutely feel the difference when you drive both cars back to back.

Well, of course - they are very different cars, with different engine characteristics, gearing, suspensions, etc.
