The scary thing is that you can get this kind of discount and in 2 or 3 years still lose your butt on this car because the resale value on American cars is so poor. I had a friend that got 12,000 off MSRP off his Tahoe, and within 3 years was trying to sell it and he was way underwater on his payments if he had tried to sell the car (wound up geting stolen and recovered in Mexico...don't ask).

The corvette is actually one of the better cars in terms of percentage of value held after X period.

New Z06 for $43k - man that is dirt cheap.
btw, have to agree with Steve(man that's twice today)- Corvette(especially z06) don't value too quickly. I have seen plenty of 2002 z06's for $37.5k- $39K.

HUGE C5 Corvette Discounts Now in Affect!

I would think the deals are worst in the summer.
Probably the best deal on an S2000 would be in the middle of winter up North where people arent lining up to buy S2000s because of the bad weather.

The question is if Corvettes hold their value so well why would they be discounting them so heavily ? Because the new Vette is coming out ? At that point wouldn't that have a severe affect on the resale value of the current C5 ? Isn't that a double edged sword than ? Not hating. but if these cars are being discounted like this, it must mean that the C5 like the C4 version (when the C5 came out) value will sink. I do admire Chevy though as each generation is a quantum leap better than the previous version (unlike some car companies that I am getting frustrated with).

$43k for a Z06? That's insane. I paid $46k near end of 03 sales and I have a friend who recently paid about that for an 04.
Don't read too much into prices. Sure they are making sure the last year C5's sell. But many times I hear on this board how NSX's can be had for about the same 20-odd % MSRP discount. Does that mean the NSX's are going to take a dump in value? I doubt it.
As Steve C mentioned, the C5 vette is above average in holding its value. You want top resale value? Go buy an Accord.

Also, who cares about resale value if you plan to keep your C5 when you get a C6.

Most will probably unload. I've fallen in love (well, at least as much as you can with a material object) with my C5, there is a great story behind how I got it, so I would like to keep it to share with my kids and grandkids down the road. I hope that as my career advances, I can begin to collect cars, become somewhat of a 1/10 Jay Leno.
