Ultimate Factory Evo (400 HP + 355 LB/FT from 2L)
From Wish List: 10 Cars They Ought To Sell Here -- Article From Motor Trend
http://www.motortrend.com/features/consume...0507_top10cars/
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR FQ400
What is it?
The ultimate Evo. Developed for Mitsubishi's British sales operation by the company's Ralliart motorsport arm, the FQ400 (what's it mean? Let's just say the Q stands for quick: You figure out the rest) boasts an astonishing 400 horsepower and 355 pound-feet from its 2.0-liter turbo four. Despite that awesome grunt, it still comes complete with a three-year/36,000-mile factory warranty. Oh, and the front brakes have been upgraded to 13.5-inch rotors with six-piston monobloc calipers.
Where's it sold?
In the U.K. only.
What's it cost?
On exchange rates current at the time of writing, about $89,850.
Why we want it
Okay, so it's more than twice the price of America's current Evo bad-boy, the 276-horse MR. But that's gotta be worth the satisfaction you'll get from giving a Ferrari Enzo driver a heart attack at traffic lights--at 3.5 seconds, it's barely a tenth of a second slower to 60 mph than Maranello's megabuck supercar. The idea of an Evo that's capable of 175 mph does have a certain appeal.
Could they sell it here?
This is a strictly limited-edition model--only 100 were built. But if the Brits can build one, surely Mitsubishi Motors North America could, too.
Bet you didn't know
The FQ400 was developed to celebrate 30 years of Lancer sales in the U.K. The original plan was to produce a version with more than 500 horsepower. Sanity prevailed.

No offense, but I can't imagine such a car is tractable on the street. I could only see using it on the track.
Also, a $90k car based on a platformer that began life at 1/6 the cost does not sound appealing to me. It's about the most pointless vehicle you could make...does the race version even have those numbers?
If it doesn't, then this FQ400 is nothing more than a car with the most power they could cram into its engine and tranny, without the backing of a prestigious make to back it up. Plenty of drag cars have that.
And it still will look 90% like the econobox it's made from. I don't think any Enzo would even fret about this because the effort required to keep it tamed on a track even would give the Enzo driver the upper hand. Plus, how often will an Enzo and FQ400 race against each other in real competition?
Mitsu is trying too hard to impress people.

$90 is just crazy. 400 hp is not that much. Give most of these EVO owners $5K & they will probably have 400+ hp. They had one of the shows (I think Top Gear) where they ran this car around the track with the Lamborghini & it more than kept up, but at $90K people can't tell the difference between you & a $20K Lancer. Lambo...slightly different story.

ok, i witnessed an evo8 mr with mild mods put down numbers that would whore that fq400.
aem ems
exhaust
intake
fuel pump
meth injection
420whp and 440 wtq
stock turbo, manifold, etc
that thing had full boost in the lower 3k range and had a stupid fat powerband from about 35-3700 rpm's all the way to 7500 rpm's
absolute street monster with tons of useable power and easy mid 11's for approx $3-3.5k
my sti can only dream of power like that on the stock turbo.

I've seen this reviewed before, and it has gotta be the worst value for money I've ever seen (even more than the NSX! ). You could spend half that and have an Evo that would annhilate everything on the street. Yes, it's cool because it's rare, but beyond that it's an act of lunacy.
