[QUOTE=wickerbill,Oct 27 2009, 01:51 PM] And non union workers could do the same work.

Nunco,

I think all states have some union protections but some are much greater than others. We have the right to work states where companies can fire people rather easily when some needs to be fired. We also have various laws with regards to forming unions. I'm very much opposed to any law that makes the way a worker votes on a union public. That sort of information is ripe for intimidation.

Most of us work for companies that don't employ union workers, yet we somehow manage to identify and hire people who are qualified for their positions regardless.

I think that if you asked the Big Three's CEOs whether they'd rather deal with the unions and all of the headaches that entails, or have to go through the trouble of assessing their employees' qualifications themselves, they'd opt for the latter without skipping a heartbeat.

I hate the UAW.

I wish there was a way that automakers could get rid of them entirely. Then, they could focus on making good products and hiring qualified people and paying them fair wages based on their skillset and market demands. Seriously... 20-50/hr plus benefits to tighten a few bolts every day? What a joke.

Hey, Obama empowered the Unions with the settlements of GM and Chrysler so of course they're going after Ford while they have the clout.

Unions aren't the only ones that require people to be trained, but they are the only ones that teach/preach & demand LAZY!

Plenty of people argue that the management of the financial industry caused so much pain and ruin, maybe we should get rid of all white collar jobs, or perhaps the benefits that go with them? Or perhaps make "the government" dictate how much people can get paid?
I don't think you've been paying close enough attention, because that's exactly what the government has been doing. When union members start talking about 50% haircuts (90% salary cuts in some cases) let's talk.
