Same reason the Carrera GT got driven around in Death Valley a lot. Testing. In order to avoid pissed off customers when the car breaks down in freezing weather because it was never tested in those conditions.

Because the owners might. Every car manufacturers go through these kinds of tests before going production.

wow, I really like how it looks on the road, all ugly with lights and 100mph tape holding the end of the lp. From debut to production, it has grown to look "built" rahter than "styled," and I mean that in a good way - like a weightlifter vs. a set designer's idea of what a weightlifter looks like.

Good job, Bugatti

Can I ask something,
Why has it taken SOOOOOOOOO da** long to actually build this car? It seems like i first saw this thing back in 98 or 99? Someone correct me on this but i swear it has been a very long time for this car to develop. Can anyone tell me when the first pics of it started popping up?
it has taken so long because this car goes so darn fast!.. they did testing on a ring track a while back, and from what i remember the cars tyres where not wide enough and at high speed the car was very unstable and the steering got too light (eg, front end was starting to lift up)

They also kept having problems building a transmission to handle the prodigous amounts of torque the engine provides. Basically, they kept shattering parts of the drivetrain. 1001 hp is nothing to sneeze at on a stock vehicle...

Well, technically I believe it is going to be a clutchless sequential. So yes/no. There are other cars out there with 7 cogs, but IIRC, they all have torque converters.

I think it should be a DSG transmission, it's using wet clutch, so technically that's automatic.
also why it took them so long is it was originally designed as a W18.
did VW actually hit 252mph on their test car? I remember reading somewhere in EVO it says that VW never actually achieved 252mph, and the chief designer of this car has already left VW.
