trying to buy s2000 or other. Question!
after lurkin around this forum for a while, i became to consider s2000 as next car.
but i have couple questions before.
how much insurance u guys usually pay?
i went to dealer and talk out some numbers but i wanted to know hows reallity.
i currently have 19 points on my insurance record but only 2 points left on DMV.
if insurance points clears out every 4 yrs, i'll be losing 5 points each year till 05 and 10 points on 06.
i didn' have any points this year though if that kinda counts.
and i'm 21.
u guys have any idea how would my insurance be with s2000?
and u guys really drive ur s2k till 9k redline?????????? isn't it kinda dangerous in the city? i'm all confused about people sayin 04 model is a disappoint. cuz i'm still having lot of fun with 6500 redline with my jetta 1.8 t ....i'll be driving s2k (if i get one) in mainly in NYC. is s2k still be my good buddy in this situation? would it be suitable for everyday driving with many art supplies (i'm an interior designer student) while having high - rev fun?
i can't tell by test driving it. i need u guys' real opinion.
or would it be better off just gettin bmw 325 ci everyday driving in the city? today i got a price of 33k with sport pkg and xenon and cold weather pkg in it.
and how much insurance would it be compare to s2k?
thx for u guys' opinion

youll love the s2k, but i think its a bit expensive to insure ....esp here in my country , and im almost sure its $$$ in the states as well
325ci's r very good for city driving , and they r much more comfy , so test drive both , and see which suits you better

I think you're better off with the Bimmer. As a former art student, I can't imagine having the S while I was in school.
I have no idea what insurance will cost you on the Bimmer, but I think it would be really high for you on the S.
You're better off waiting a few years.

I'm 26 in NYC and I'm paying around 1150/6 months with a clean license and limited usage (6000 miles a year). Here's how I got to that level:
Increase deductible on Collision and Comp to 1000. (make sure you can afford it.)
Take defensive driving course to get discount if you're eligible.
If not, you'd probably be looking at 1500/6months. I am only paying 20 bucks a month more than my 93 MR2. However, I am driving very defensively and watching where I am parking my car.
As for storage space, you wouldn't be able to fit much. The trunk is reasonable but I am not sure if you'll be able to fit all that stuff. I guess if you want a high reving car that is practical and a little less on insurance, try the RX8 6MT. Only trade off is, it's not as fast as the S2k. If speed is not your priority, then get the Rx8.
I rarely go over 6k. I generally drive anywhere between 3-4k rpms which is very conservative. I pamper my car and drive it like grandma!! That's what's great about this car. It's not an addicively fast car because it doesn't have gobs of torque around normal rpm driving like the 350Z. But the power is there when you need it. You just have to get into the VTEC powerband. Under 6k it is NOT gutless by any means because of the short gearing. It is definitely peppy and adequate for city driving.

jlstyle82,
I'm 25 and pay $680 / 6 months for $100k / $300k / $100k coverage on my '02 S2000. It's listed as a daily driver of about 30k miles per year, and there is one other car on the policy. My collision deductible is $500 and my comprehensive deductible is $100. This is through Mercury, and I have no points on my record.
I have no idea what kind of rates are typical on the East Coast, but your main concern would probably be the number of points on your record...that's a decent amount, and I think the insurance will likely reflect that to a great extent. However, I will say that before buying my S2000, I also considered the BMW 3-series, and got quotes on the 325Ci and 330Ci. Surprisingly, there wasn't all that huge of a difference. The 3-series definitely cost a little less to insure than the S2000, but it wasn't an enormous difference...maybe $100 every 6 months. Get quotes on all of them and see. I think you might be surprised at what the actual difference is.
Also, the S2000 is fine for daily driving. I drive mine an average of 100 miles a day. I currently live in San Jose, which is mostly suburban, but also spend a lot of time with it in Los Angeles, and it does great. You do need to make sure it'll fit your art supplies, though, because the storage space is pretty limited. If the trunk is big enough for your art supplies, then all else should be fine. I personally do rev mine to 8k or 9k a couple of times a day, and sometimes more. But, it's not necessary in order to enjoy the car. If you're having fun with your 1.8T at 6500 RPMs, then you should have a blast in the S2000 once VTEC engages at 6000 RPMs. Power below VTEC certainly won't impress anyone, but it's more than sufficient for normal driving conditions.
