Troubleshoot code
This is what the code stated:
"P0601 - The PCM has determined that an internal memory error has occurred."
The only thing I could think of that may have caused this was a missing oil cap. I got a new one, so should I just reset it? Could that even be what caused this error.
PS. It's on a 2002 PT Cruiser (I figured I'd get more help in this section than the off-topic one)

This code on a PT Cruiser should read "Internal Controller Failure" for which the description is "Internal control module fault condition (check sum) detected". (My other car is an '02 PT and I have the service manual.) Unfortunately, it doesn't go into how to resolve this code.
The PCM sits just behind the brake reservoir. Did any of the oil make its way to the PCM? Perhaps oil could have interfered with some of the connectors or ground wiring. I believe this code is trying to tell you that there is something odd within the PCM itself in the way it processes information. It also depends upon an altered voltage to do its thing right. How bad was the oil splashing as a result of the missing oil cap? I would suggest you clean up the oil as best you can. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and gently hose down the engine bay with hot water to disperse any oil. Dry it with compressed air and reconnect the battery and see if the code comes back. If it comes back, contact a Chrysler dealer and ask about this code and what they normally do about it.

Well, I think it was coincidence with the missing oil cap. Your PCM may have started on a journey "south".
