Toyota MR2

mmmm. tasty. And you're right, back then toyota built the good supra, Celica, and even the corolla (with its interesting options)- hell, half their show room was fun cars. Now, they're building cars just like everyone else that lack soul.
thanks for the post.

As much as you can hate on the FRS, I don't think you can deny it can be a fun car. (you being used in general terms)

Biggest moneypit I've ever owned. I hated mine, but enjoyed other people's MR2s better. Strut suspension has similar shortcomings in ride quality as the FRS, but being turbocharged and mid-engine made it fun and unique. The driving dynamics were fun on a backroad but at the limit handling was not all that great, precuse, or refined. I do kind of miss mine but dont regret trading up to an NSX.

Had a 91 turbo, loved it, sold it, bought it back a year later, sold it again. My favorite car I ever owned. Miss it every day.

I test drove the early 90's MR-2 new and didn't think it was as great as advertised. Loved the design and wish they did more with it. Did not feel as sporty at the price as my Celica did for its price.

Hmmm. Pretty much sums up how I feel about my S2000. Only it seems it's far more practical to own a S2000 than a MR2?

Damn that video makes me miss my 91 like crazy
There's nothing like hearing an open element intake and the turbo suction noise, supplemented by a deep exhaust rumble right behind your ears. The car sounded amazing when under load going uphill. Under WOT you feel the rear wheels and the engine behind you just pushing you forward.
Rear end did not like to play nice, at all. IIRC the car had 14" wheels lolz. Man the thing was fun.
I would get an s2k as a second car in a heartbeat though, especially now that a used ap1 is coming closer to a mint mr2's price, and the s2k is not only drop down it feels way more rigid and should be way more reliable. My MR2 left me stranded on multiple occasions, and eventually the hose from hell gave, the oil pan developed a crack somehow, among other minor electrical issues. This all happened within a 3 months ownership.
Did I mention the good times were super fun though?
