Toyota "Lexus" LF-A Spider
OK.. some of this is a refresh but just sharing the new pix...
"The Lexus LF-A concept car has just made another public appearance, at the Tokyo Motor Show. However, while the shiny display model was on the Lexus stand, a black-clad prototype was busy at Germany's Nurburgring circuit. Toyota officials let slip in Tokyo that the LF-A is going to have a V10 engine, developed from the engines in Toyota's F1 cars, which is thought to develop over 500bhp and give 200mph-plus capability. Although the engine is front- rather than mid-mounted, the LF-A will be rear-wheel drive, and Lexus has promised "the ultimate weight balance", "extravagant comfort" and "precision operation."
While we can't see the car's roof clearly under all this disguising, word is that the LF-A could well come with the option of a metal folding roof, as Lexus aims to take on the likes of the Mercedes SL65 AMG as well as the Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari F430 and Aston Martin DB9 coupes and their drop-top counterparts.
The LF-A hasn't yet been confirmed for production, but the continued and sustained testing of prototypes like this, plus the repeat appearance of the concept car at international motor shows, suggests that it's a pretty definite contender."

The wheels on the spy shots are much better.

sheesh...that looks like a turd
I find nothing beautiful about this car, and never have. I simply do not understand the styling direction, or what is so ground-breaking about the car. For a car coming from one of the world's best, it is surprisingly bad. Those wheels are perhaps the locus of the problem, but the sloping nose ain't pretty either.

I doubt that the front end will look like the illustration above. With European pedestrian safety regulations what they are, Lexus will have to raise the front. The sharp front end looks like it would sever your legs just above the ankles if it hit you.

I'm actually pretty excited to see this car make it to production. I think everyone's been wanting a Japanese sports car to step back into the ring like the NSX once did. I saw the LF-A at the Detroit auto show last year, and the design looked promising. I don't care much for the computer illustration above, but I don't think the production version will resemble it very closely.
