They'll shit the bed with the 2.4L N/A motor only and no snail. Subaru always figures out how to **** a good thing up.

According to Motortrend, it'll be turbocharged.

Unfortunately there is no substance to this "article". Even that rendering isn't new. Everything mentioned in the article as possible has already been discussed for over a year.

Sadly this is not confirmation of anything related to looks or powertrain offerings.

Yeah I highly highly doubt it looks like since it's going to be on an all new global platform, that rendering is clearly based on the current cars.

I thought it was essentially confirmed that it's coming with the turbo 2.4?

Nope. Neither one is confirmed at this point. They were talking about using the TNGA platform but recent reports say they're thinking about staying with the current platform. They were contemplating an inline-4 but then turbo 2.4 then a re-worked NA 2.4L. All this has probably been settled on internally already. Honestly, I think they're just constantly feeding the rumor mill with "what-ifs" to keep up interest.

A guy over on FT86Club that has good sources (not kidding, he does) has been strongly hinting that the 2nd gen car is going to be a big departure from the first gen, and not in a good way. Not really sure what that means but all I can think is still slow, and with worse handling (probably heavier, more insulated). I'd like to ignore/prove him wrong but he's always been correct.

If that's the case then it'll probably be 1-200 lb heavier than before and have Subaru's 2.4 naturally aspirated engine.

I strongly suspect that the 86s probably wont be able to meet new crash standards, I always thought the front end of that car was sorta suspect. Additionally, having a one off platform to essentially build the 86s makes no financial sense, if anything the 86 platform may have been an engineering exercise to help develop their next platform that could accomodate rwd.

But yeah, if the new 86 were to only be 100lbs or so heavier with a 2.4L turbo, you figure that will deeply cut into the Supra sales.

I thought that the current BRZ/FRS/86 was on a rebodied Crosstrek chassis?
