My family has two Toyotas and they are great cars. I'm glad that they are bringing back some sportiness, maybe this will motivate Honda. I can't wait to see them. =]

That $29K in Japan equates more to about $24K-$25K here, so that's a pretty good price.

Not bad. Now, let's see what kind of performance it has.

Lots of subaru boxer engines are going ka-boom. Not sure of all the details but maybe someone who owns an wrx/sti can comment. I hope they really take a look at this before production time.

Usually depends on what year you have. According to all my subie friends (I have a lot of them) the 04-05 block is most bullet proof. This is just from semi personal experience but a friend's 08 sti blew 4 times before he traded it in for a 370z. All he had was stage 2 cobb tuning which is just turboback + ecu. So I'm guessing the 2008 year sti's have it the worst? 2009+ is suppose to be better.

The rash of those was due to a bad factory tune that Subaru put out to make nice with emissions standards - basically it would run lean, even stock, if you pushed it hard and then KABOOM. I believe that 07-08 model years were most likely to have this issue. Around the same time there were issues with a bad batch of piston heads, but I think that was mainly in the 08's and I am not sure if it was also a side effect of the bad tunes.

The engine is solid, it just has not evolved at all in years, which is why it is an odd choice. My 06 STI got 23 MPG max stock, and closer to 20 MPG when pushing it, which is getting to be a tough sell when a 400+ HP mustang GT gets like 26 MPG highway.

If they took the setup, added forged pistons, made it direct injection to improve mileage, then you would have quite a nice car with how the FT-86 looks, but I know that is just in my dreams
