Take off the Toyota badge and you swear you were looking at a Mazda.
nah, even with no badge it still looks very toyota.
well, more like lexus, really, it has that "l-finesse" design direction which i have mixed feelings about.

anyways, i'm waiting on the subaru version of this car...
just because imma bigger fan of subaru than toyota.

It's also toyota, the car will probably have (as you mentioned) 200ish hp at the most. Let us remember, they arn't exactly big on making fun / fast cars now.
From the article: "Toyota's President Akio Toyoda has said the automaker is in desperate need of an excitement injection."

The whole point of the car, reportedly, is to change what they're "big on."

I'm with you. The days of sub 3k lbs cars are more-or-less gone. It's also toyota, the car will probably have (as you mentioned) 200ish hp at the most. Let us remember, they arn't exactly big on making fun / fast cars now.
yes, but its also because motors in the HP WARS got bigger so its not just safety regs.

just read into the press release and what words they use to descibe the car. lastly look at the dimensions like many have pointed out.

PRESS RELEASE

1. FT-86 Concept (world premiere)
The FT-86 ("86" pronounced "hachi roku"), a compact rear-wheel-drive sports car, provides driving joy and excitement.

* Compact design gives driver greater control, while body's lightness and low center of gravity allow racecar-like handling
* Both power and environmental performance provided by 2-liter boxer engine and light body
* Flash Red body color contains hint of blue; interior expresses modern feel with minimal coverage of the highly refined structural components evoking enthusiasm for cruising

Vehicle Length Width Height Wheelbase Seating
FT-86 Concept 4,160 mm 1,760 mm 1,260 mm 2,570 mm 4
you must be thinking of toyota in the early part of the decade because last i checked 2GR-FE, 2GR-FSE and 3UR-FE are plenty quick in their respected class.

Let us remember, they arn't exactly big on making fun / fast cars now.

that's why i said this car is very close to production minus the interior because the true concept was the FT-HS.

it would be cool if the rims on the concept will be the same style on the production, just smaller

i will buy it if someone can prove the EJ25 can be swapped easily

i don't know, it just sounds too good to be true, especially coming from toyota. there are less than a handful of *affordable* modern hardtop sports car on the market today that weighs less than 3000lbs.

but if toyota can pull it off...i will be on the show room floor once the initial rush and stealer markups are over.
