torbocharging a Dodge Viper
#12
i might follow in your foot steps one day, tubo+viper is ridiculous. sounds like a lot of people dont know about drag racing in this thread - there are ways to get traction with 800hp, the 60's and early 70's could have helped with this learning experience.

Somewhat OT, but here's a video of a 1700HP Viper. I'd need to wear a diaper to drive that beast!

The years you want are probably from 1996-1999. In the 96 model, you want only the GTS version. Otherwise, stick to 97-99. 1999 being the most preferred year because of some changes between the 98 and 99 version.
1999 was the last year of the forged internal engines. 2000 and above were cast internals.
Turbos are probably not the way to go. They are not as easy to do as a supercharger. Most Viper people go with the supercharger which will get you easily in the 600 range. However, even without supercharger, you can get easy HP out of a NA Viper engine. Headers, exhaust and intake will net you easily over 50 HP on them.
A nice 98-99 Viper will cost you over 30k, more likely around 35k. Red is the most common color and also the cheapest. Blue the most desireable but only made in 96-97.
If you have any other Viper questions, let me know.

I can't believe no one has addressed this yet, but have you seen the cost of aftermarket parts for the Vipers? Even if you get one for $25k, plan on spending an EASY $10k on the S/C and tune, plus exhaust.

There are a few 1000+hp Vipers around here, and they seem to pull endlessly. I want to see if in a few years when I look at buying a GT-R if I can swing a ZR-1.

So wait, is the OP right? I am not even going to pretend to know about Viper prices, but $25k for any V10 with under 20k miles is crazy talk to me. You can't even get an 03 Cobra, or barely a stock Evo 8 for that with those miles.
EDIT:
No Shit!

Have you ever seen the top and side "windows" on the early year models? I don't believe the windows even roll down, you just pull them off. I've seen kit cars that looked better. The later ones are much nicer IMO.
