new or used?

What do you mean by 'performance'?

I guess you're asking used b/c there is not much for that new.

I'd say a wrx for all around performance at this price.

Used LS1 F-body with a few grand in mods will stay under $15k and provide the best blend of handling and power.

Ya that's really broad, and could include such a wide range of years. You could say anything from a 96 300ZX TT to a Celica All-Trac to the aforementioned F-body.

The newest car I can think of that would fit into that price range is the Nissan SE-R Spec V. You can get those real cheap. I've yet to see any WRX for under $17k used in my area.

I think you need to narrow your question down more. Even brand new, there's nothing really at $15k that "performs", based a tC perhaps, but that's about it. The SE-R, SI, GTI, etc. are all thousands above that price point.

300zx turbo in fantastic condition built to 400+rwhp, or the other side of the spectrum, one of the cheaper s2k's on the market. A mint turbo mr2 can also be found and maintained in this price range.

some of my all time favorites: WRX, 3000GT VR4, 300ZX TT, 240SX W/ SR20 SWAP, mr2, Old 911 OR 912, or save a little more and get an S.

You didn'g specify what exactly you meant by performance, so some of these might not work for you. A 240SX can be a great all around cars, but watch out for those injectors. Happy picking!

At our last dyno day there was a guy with a '97 Corvette he bought for less than 15K. Looked and ran great.. there are plenty of C5 garage queens out there that are a great deal.
