When the Elise first came out and they invited the press, one reporter questioned the head engineer (or was it the pr v.p?) about why the car didn't come with an LSD at intro? The reply was something along the lines of "A properly designed car does not need an LSD.". Something like that.

Not being an RX-7, for one.
I was primarily referring to the RMS issue, which dogged them for many years, and apparently still occurs. C'mon, for cars that cost over $70K?

Actually, the '93 FD made '93 911s look pretty bad, so much for that bs.

Anyway, that fails, you get oil loss (which of course leads quickly to engine death if not caught in time). In a traditional engine/tranny layout its where the rear of the tranny meets up with the engine/crank, and a big PITA to R&R.

Desirability can easily be measured via market value - EBay, kbb, NADA, Manheim, etc.
What's the going rate for a '93 RX-7 vs. a '93 911?
I believe RMS is largely a thing of the past, mainly afflicting 9x6 cars.
