too much oil in motor -- what problems?
the problem with checking your oil in a dark garage, by the light of a dim flashlight...
I checked the oil on my CRX-- thought it was too low-- added 2L.
a few days later I took it out in the sun and found that in fact the oil was fine... I had apparently now overfilled it by 2L.
how bad is this? what sort of damage can I cause?
note: this is an 89 CRX, not my s2k.
thanks in advance!

Not good. You should get the excess out ASAP. Just drain 2L out the drain plug. Unscrew it when cold and let it drain but hold the bolt close so you can put it back on quickly. You may have to do it in a couple of goes.
Having that much oil in the crankcase will cause the bottom end of the crankshaft and rods to slam into the oil, causing it to foam and froth. Foamed oil doesn't pump very well, nor does it lubricate or cool very well. Also, if you foam it up enough (would take high rpm running) you'll shove it up and out the PCV valve, where it will get sucked into the intake and get burned in your engine. None of this is desireable.
Damage would be anything associated with poor lubrication and poor oil cooling (added wear) and possible oil contaminated intake charge. In all honestly, a few days, as long as you didn't drive the bag off the car, shouldn't have created too much damage.
You might want to also check and clean out your PCV valve. Look down the throat of your throttle body and see how oily it is. Maybe consider cleaning it out as best you can.

egads. not good!
thanks for the input.
I'll drive it to an oil change place and get 'em to drain out some of the excess. (I don't have a Fumoto valve on my CRX, nor the equipment/location to drain my oil).
fortunately, I've hardly driven it. maybe 10 miles at most, all city driving.
