My cousin spoke to his inlaw who works for Chrysler. He said don't worry the car sells well enough. Union will probably renegotiate and all will be fine

Z06 has about 100lb-ft more torque that's instantaneous at low RPM.

Viper holds track records that the Z06 cannot because it was design to be beat on. I would suspect the GM FI issues are what Dodge is looking to avoid.

So why don't you? I don't mean to specifically target you, but just as a general comments at people who say they love Viper and would much prefer it over any other car. Reality is, the Z06, despite the overheat on track issue, is selling very well. The buying public doesn't care for a beautiful, track focused car. The Z06 beats the Viper on all objective fronts except prolonged track use. Sadly, the Viper is the best track car that nobody buys. Maybe because it costs so much, and in that price range, people don't want to buy a Dodge.

Between the Z06 and the Viper, the Z06 is a little less in your face. The Vette also has decades upon decades of branding.

I think you might be right with Dodge. They tried it under the SRT brand alone and that didn't stick. I think that hints to an issue with a $100k Dodge product.

I wasn't aware just how far apart the Z06 and base Viper are in cost ($80k vs $95k), but how close in power (640hp/640tq vs 645hp/600tq).

I guess the Viper's value proposition is a little hard to see, not just due to the badge but compared to the Z06 which seems the most logical car to cross-shop. Is the Viper just over-priced even in the automotive world?

I think the Viper is a bit overpriced on paper, but I would be willing to spend an extra $15k for a Viper just on the looks alone. It's great looking.

You can find brand new Vipers close to the same price price as a z06. Vipers sell for a good amount below msrp.

The Vette has always been the best value in the high performance 2 seater market, it's hard to beat. They build the platform for the volume of $55k purchase. The Viper while it has multiple trim levels only has one motor option.

I don't know if someone will really cross shop the two cars and that might be the rub. My review on price difference shows Z06 80k, and base Viper 87k. That Viper doesn't have adaptive suspension.

The Viper is so much more car in every way. It's raw, faster, harsher, louder, meaner and in-your-face styling that the Vette just isn't. The interior fit and finish is also nicer on the Viper. I'm not knocking the Vette. It has it's place in the mater. But while those figures look similar, the fact is the Z06 doesn't beat the Viper around the track and the Viper will produce those HPs all day long says something.

But that doesn't seem to change the market realities that Vette's are out selling Vipers.
