I am just happy for GM that they finally designed a good-looking car, one that does not share its interior design and parts w/ its minivan cousin.

What remain to be seen are its handling and overall quality, before anybody can say if it's a home-run. Thus far I give it a double.

check out http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=360 for all the info.

It will be under 3000lbs and have 177hp 170tq in base trim. so to answer your question it will go head to head with the miata. The gxp model and saturn equivalent the redline sky will be fierce competition for the s2k and others.

New miata has those power numbers at 2400 pounds. Miata will be much quicker and more nimble than the roughly 2900 lb Solstice. I still like the car, and think it will sell many units because like all GM products, at some point they will discount the hell out of them and it will be reasonably fun and nice looking. I like the Sky even better.

The new Miata will have a significant power deficit (~160 hp vs. 177 hp -- more than 10% less power) and weigh in in the mid- to high-2400s.

Regarding the guesses about the cars' stats on this thread -- both GM and Mazda have published specs, so there's no need to speculate on the numbers.

160HP/2400lb > 177HP/2900lb IMO.

even if they weigh the same, 160 and 177 are not all that different. I bet they dyno within 5HP of each other!

You're forgetting that Mazda never gets their power numbers right.

Remember the RX-8? Last gen Miata? Overrated moderately, though maybe Mazda has learned this time around....

3200 is a bit on the high side. I think I'd still buy one though. I think the S2000 looks hot, but it doesn't look Solstice hot.

You can register to pre-order your Solstice starting at 2:00PM Eastern time tomorrow. The base price is $19,995, but don't know what is included at that price. Go to the following web site for more info:

Er ... the thing that looks like a trunk is stowage space for the top? So there isn't any trunk space at all?

I sure hope I'm missing something....
