Default thoughts on the pontiac solstice

is this a good strategy for gm to get into the roadster department, great price ok look but can it compete with the miata and s2000. the miata will obviously compete with the base solstice while the s2000 with compete with the supercharged 2.4 liter solstice. also from what i read in C&D the production version will weigh in 350 pounds heaver than the concept thats 3200 pounds. just want to know what you guy's think.

If 3200 lbs is correct than that's unacceptable. It's a shame really, it's such a nice looking car.

500 lbs lighter & it might have been decent

how can it be so heavy? unless it's just alot bigger than it looks in the pics...still I thought it was in the miata's class, but @ 3200 lbs w/that little engine, it will lack any & all performance...

had potential

3200 is a bit on the high side. I think I'd still buy one though. I think the S2000 looks hot, but it doesn't look Solstice hot.

check out http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=360 for all the info.

It will be under 3000lbs and have 177hp 170tq in base trim. so to answer your question it will go head to head with the miata. The gxp model and saturn equivalent the redline sky will be fierce competition for the s2k and others.

Post up some pix of the Solstice! Too lazy to look it up.

But as with any GM model, Solstice can be had for much less than the MSRP's after all the incentives and such. So, I think it'll sell well. But that doesn't mean it'll be profitable to GM if the car will sell for dirt-cheap, after all the incentives, like many of its current vehicles.

Thanks! I like the side profile and interior. The front looks ugly to me. But overall, pretty nice looking car. Looks like a mini Viper.

If they retail it for 12K;which is all it will be worth after you drive it off the showroom; I'd lease one for a beater for 24 months.

I think it looks great, I like the saturn's styling more than the pontiac. I think most people buy roadsters b/c they look good, unlike us. It's unanimous in this forum that the s2000 is a dead sexy car but the drive is what really sold me. There are five s2000 owners in my very small town and I'm the only one that actually drives it like it should be. The rest, which I've tried to strike up a conversation about cars with, only bought it b/c it was a sexy roadster they can drive on weekends. They drive them til the honda warranty expires then get another car. If GM can sell a great looking roadster for cheaper than the rest, I think they'll sell good just on that premise alone.
