Thoughts on Pontiac GTO?

stockae92, C5 vettes have all sorts of weight-saving design features that cost $$ to use. Hydroformed frame rails, composite transverse springs, composite body panels, thinned glass (Z06), ...
I assume the Holden chassis is cheaper and heavier.

This new Pontiac GTO is not really that new to the USA.
The chassis began in Europe as an Opel (owned by GM).
We saw pretty much the same chassis a few years ago in the Cadillac Catera, built in Europe by Opel and powered by a typically underachieving 3-liter 6.
In Australia, GM created a V8 version they call the Holden Monaro. Now Holden is building the Pontiac GTO in Australia.

I don't think that is correct. It was correct for Holdens from about 10 - 15 years ago, but the Monaro is based on a Commdore VT (ie. the model designation) and that one is 100% Australian. The car is way too big to have anything from the Open.
That means the desing/chassis is about 6 years old (but revised/improived every 2 years or so).

if you wait couple of years, it'll depreciate so fast, i think you should be able to pick one up for a nice 2nd car.
and, no thanks personally, i'll just keep my 02 blue vette.

Yea well i have a magazine somewhere comparing the EVO to the Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 360, and a bunch of other rediculous sports cars, but they're certainly not in the same price range.
The GTO and BMW 6 seem to be similar types of cars. Big Coupes with big engines. Never said their prices would be compared
