Now that's a 280 I wouldn't mind owning. I notice the intercooler on it; apparently the old L28 straight-6 can mod up fairly well, and I've heard you can get near 350-400 hp without doing too much. I'm not sure how true that is, but that's what a couple 280 owners told me.

I remember I loved my friends older sisters 280zx back in the early 80's! I was only in grade school or middle school at the time. I swore one day I'd own one. Never happened, but I still remember how much I loved that car. It is a bit old now though...might be pretty hard to find one that iz in good condition.

guess if you don't mind 20 yr old car. I'd probably look for something more modern like a 240SX or a Civic/Integra/Miata etc.. etc..
Miata. Who cares if people think it is a chick car. Far more reliable, easy to find cheap, if the engine or transmission blow up it is only $800 and a weekend of wrenching. Good on gas and way more fun to drive. I drove a friends 280zx in high school and was not impressed as a high school kid.
You could also look at second gen RX7's. Very unloved and cheap if you can find one but kind of fun to drive.

I thought this conversion looked like fun:

The one I saw had a small block Chevy (400-425 hp) and Borg Warner T-10. Looked good, ran good.
Might be a solution if some of the body panels are a problem.
Here's another one. As you can see, getting the small block in there isn't much of a problem.

It's a decent fake...Forward of the doors that is. Anything after that is all comically misproportioned. The interior is also a mixture of a good fake and ajust plain fake.
