^ I know front facing is possible, but I've never seen/heard of rear facing before in the back.

Hmm, I've not heard of rear-facing seats fitting in a Porsche. Steve?

your main problem would be the baby stuff (strollers etc) you need a decent sized SUV, RX350's or CRV's would be difficult. My wife and I got a GX-470 for our baby. everything fits without problems especially if the third row seats are removed.

Where do you live? How old are you?

IMHO a small wagon is fine if you don't take many 3+ hour trips or wknd trips. However, you would quickly run out of space in a 3 series if you were going for a wknd trip to grandma's. For wknd trips - you will need travel crib, big stroller, toy bag, daiper/clothes bag and ofcourse your own luggage. That's not easy in a 3 series wagon. The other problem with the 3 series or Audi wagon's is the rear seat is SO low. It can be quite frustrating trying to attach the 5 point harness on a crying 4 month old all bent over.

We had an Acura MDX when our 1st child was born. Then got a Seinna. The Minivan is clearly the best family mover. Got rid of the Seinna for a Denali XL. It doubles as my tow vehicle for track wknds.

thanks for the info...

unfortunately with our schedules we won't be taking many weekend trips or vacations. our immediate family is all very close to us (geographically).

i do realize that both the a4 avant and the 3 series wagon are on the smaller side, especially the rear seats and entry....

clearly, bigger=more room=more convenient. it's just a matter of how much convenience (or rather inconvenience) one will put up with.

so what do you guys think of the new accord crosstour?

I don't like it much on the outside but my wife loves it. It looks to have a lot of room, both for people and cargo, especially with the little 8" cavity in the back under the floor for duffel bags or smaller items. The interior looks great (it's the same as a regular Accord, more or less) and has plenty of room. The back seat is for two people only - it has a weird hump in the middle that precludes anyone but a dwarf from being comfortable in the center position. A car seat should be fine there, though.

I'd say it'll make a great family vehicle and should be extremely reliable. The Toyota Venza LOOKS better to me, though I'm not sure if it will be as nice to drive, overall.
