I agree that the C5 is a better car and it's newer, but i doubt that I can find something under $30k, I need the vette as a daily driver since the S2k will be stripped race car soon, I'd like to spend less than $24k and I was initially looking at the C5s, then I noticed that the Z06 is not that much more expensive, I will keep looking around, or I might show up for that 2001 Z06 and offer a ridiculously low price and see how they respond, it seems everybody agree here that the MY01 Z06 is not the one to have, so thank you all for your help , if you guys have more info about buying a used Vette, C5 or Z06 please keep them coming.

2001's are to be avoided not just because of the lower power output.

There were a number of issues with the 2001 Z06 that were resolved or improved with later models, oil comsumption, twitchy rear, etc etc. Basically the 2001 Z06 only exists because of the 2000 Cobra R. GM was finishing up on developing the 2002 Z06 when they got wind that Ford Cobra R which was supposed to trump the C5 in every performance category. GM felt it could not like this happen, and rushed the 2002 Z06 into production in a almost finished state. Thus the 2001 Z06 and 2000 Cobra R reached market within months of each other, and indeed the Z06 out performed the Cobra R at a lower price point, winning comparos and generally taking the wind out of Fords sails, just like GM wanted it to. However there were still issues with the car, which is why GM followed the 2001 Z06 with the 2002 revision just a year later, much to the anger of 2001 owners.

The 2003 models did not change much from 2002, just a upgraded shift forked later in the production year.

The 2004 models enjoyed the CF hood and the best shock tuning of the generation, and are the best of the breed.

For C5's paint quality is a concern, many have been resprayed. Check for road rash behind the wheel arches, and stone chips at the rocker panels. Also check that the clutch is not slow in coming up or sticks to the floor after hard driving.

Basically my Z06 has been bullet proof, and they tend to be pretty reliable when it comes to the major parts. Of course some cars do have problems, so just make sure you didn't get an abused car. There are plenty of 2002+ Z06s pampered by older gentlemen that just wash and wax them all day long, so keep looking.

I mean, there really is no reason to pick the c5 zo6 over an 05 or 06.
Really? Have you driven both back to back?

The posts and comparisons I've read on CF between tend to favor the C5Z as a sports car. It's stiffer, has higher limits, and has more of a race car feel are some of the different characteristics that were present in the comparisons. I'm sure some people on S2ki that have driven both could chime in...

Disclaimer: I have not driven either of them.

The only 2001 Z06 worth considering is the rare Arctic White one since that was the first and only year they made Z06s in white. Why GM doesn't offer AW on Z06s is a mystery to me.

Anyway, if you want a C5 Z06 go with the latter years as they have more HP. That price for the one you are looking at is way high. Shop around...there are great deals to be had on these cars. My guess is there are some garage queens with low miles at bargain prices out there. Search all Vette and LS series boards (i.e. LS1.com, LS6.com, etc etc.)

It's not Arctic White, it's Speedway White.

Yes...ty for the correction. 2001 is the only year for a white Z06.

I agree, overpriced. And prefer the '02-'03 for various teething fixes (most already mentioned). The '03 is the 50th anniversary so that's a cool collectible edge down the road.
