Other than that not much changed until the redesign in 1999.
i agree. my choice would be a '94 A package with available torsen ltd slip. the switch to an idiot gauge for oil pressure in '95 was troubling and each year following '94 they got heavier, without any real (IMHO) power increases. i traded a '93 for '94 because they were THAT much better. brakes, engine and bracing made all the difference in the world to me.

be sure to check out www.bethaniagarage.com for hard dog roll bars and cages. they are super well made and are perfect fits for the M1. i had a dbl diag sport bar that saved my cookies in a serious wreck.

best of luck with the project. it should be a blast.

Most S2000s don't come with roll cages, race seats, harnesses, race pads, hard tops, spares, etc. (mine sure didn't), so that probably doesn't help this guy much. Plus you can get an already-built, fully-sorted Spec Miata with all of the stuff above for around $10k, barely half of which a used S2000 would cost before you started bolting on parts.

If he is trying to decide between a spec miata and a turbo, try to push him in the turbo direction. Spec miatas arent too fast because they have a min weight limit. A nicely set up turbo'd miata, however, can be extremely fast while still being street legal. I have ridden in and driven a few FMI and FMII miatas and they are a blast. Not nearly as stiff as an S, but very tossable, nicely balanced, and more power than you would care to have in a car of that weight (one of them was putting down around 260rwhp).
