If you don't mind getting a second hand car you could probably find an e36 M3 4 door for the same money. If you must get new also consider the TSX... apart from the theoritical benefits of RWD it offers all the same performance.

G/f just picked up a TSX. Very impressive piece for the cash!! She loves it!

An IS300 is due for a redesign for the 2005 model year, it's supposed to also get an 8 cylinder with the redesign as an optional motor, the IS430 some above have mentioned. That should be a fun ride, I hope it has a manual tranny option.

I'd go for G35coupe personally, but if you need 4dr IS300 is a good choice in my opinion.

for: more fun than 3 series, good handling, sporty interior

against: feels unstable in high speed, dated exterior style

The manual just plain sucks. Same with the clutch. I loved IS300's until my sister got one, the more I drive it, the less I like it. Her car is still somewhat fun though since she has exhaust, intake, springs, and other goodies, but I'd definately get the automatic. Other than the manual tranny, the car is great.

Get one then put some goodies like a turbo kit. The one from TBKO is under 5 grand can put 400rwhp. Screw chipping the little Volvo, and who wants a car with the same platform as the Focus?

The new IS300s coming out are going to have V6 engines the is430 will have a v8. Toyota is finally doing away with its Inline 6 engines . My brother has one and I liked it when he first got it. It handled fairly well, nice bucket seats, nice leather interior and fairly quick for a four door sedan and cheaper than a 3 series. If you do go with the current IS300, u can always go NA-T as it has the NA Supra engine in there.
