I feel however that the new m3 that comes out will make the e49 m3 depreciate in value quite quickly.
Doubtful for two reasons....there is no E49, it's an E46 M3 and doubtful that it depreciate quickly with the arrival of the E92 M3. The E46 M3 will probably be the last M3 to be powered by BMW's 'bread and butter' which is a smooth as silk inline 6. The classic lines of the E46 M3 will ensure that it remains in demand despite the release of the E92 M3. The 335 should impact E46 M3 resale more than the release of the E92 M3.

lamvu,

it's one of those things in life...you gotta pay to play.

you want a car now? or 2 years from now?

what's the opportunity cost of enjoyment for 2 years?

for me, it's very high....

i JUST bought an E46 M3....even knowing that a new one is around the corner.

I too went from a S2k to an M3. I picked up my 04 M3 back in Feb and love it. I bought mine with higher mileage (now biting me in the ass for trying to sell it), but my is CPO'd til 2010 so if I can't sell it I will just keep it and extend the maintenance package and know i have an amazing car for many years to come! I also am not worried about the new M3 when it comes out. Its a completely different beast and i personally think the E46 is the last of the true BMW's with the true styling. Never been the biggest fan of the new stylings of any BMW.

M5s are really nice but if this will be a DD definitely testdrive a E39 540/6 as well. 90% of the power for street driving as the M5 but $15k-20k cheaper
