Test Drove a Genesis 2.0T
I wanted to drive the 3.8 V6 Track package Genesis but unfortunately they did not have ANY V6 Genesis coupes at all!
So I took out a 6 spd 2.0T Coupe.
The interior, the steering, the suspension felt nice. I liked all of those things. I liked the layout of everything, the car cornered fairly flat too.
The powerband of the motor is terrible. I understand it is turbo but it is COMPLETELY gutless below 2500 RPMs and also at WOT the MPH needle damn near stops moving above 5000 RPMS.
The clutch was WAY too light, I could not even feel anything in it to modulate it. It was quite awkward. I had a hard time getting smooth shifts out of the car.
The transmission. Oh boy. It felt like it was connected together by rubber bands. The throws were easily twice as long as the S2000 and the 2nd to 3rd shift spacing was the equivalent to S2000 2nd to 5th. Also, it would not let me shift into 1st gear (Clutch in, not trying to rev match, rolling at about 10mph) until about 3-5mph. At that point I felt it crunch twice through the shifter into first gear.
Overall, I really really like the interior layout, the options, the whole design of the car. I do like it. I hope the track package has a short shifter of some sort that leads to better feel. I liked the dash too. Quite nice.
I hope the Track version V6 is MUCH better. Good looking car, Nice attempt by Hyundai.
I think that if I was not coming from or comparing this car to the S2000 I would be typing a much better review..

The exhaust is really restricted on that car. I'd imagine with some type of stage 2 (TBE and tune) the car probably really comes to life
My favorite part is when the salesman was telling me that the car has a 51/49 weight distribution. That was the best of any production vehicle ever.
I informed him of his errors and told him it was his unlucky day because he met an owner of a car like an S2000...
This is also the same salesman who told me the 2.0T will out accelerate the V6.... I did not say anything about that.
He did fess up though when I called him on a few things. He said "look dude, I like Jeeps. I am not a sports car enthusiast like you are. I just sell Elantras all day"
I laughed...

Yikes, you guys! You are trying to compare a Honda S2000 to a Hyundai Genesis? Lets take a look - Hyundai has no racing heritage or track record to speak of - they started out by reverse engineering competitor vehicles. The Genesis is their first attempt at a "racy" vehicle. Hard to compate at this point! The *only* area they can compete in is price. And guess what, I'm a discerning buyer - low price is not my highest priority!
