Test drove friends 2005 Z4
OMG! what a $hit of a car and he even said after he rode in my car and drove my S back to my house. grant it his wifes Z4 has 12k vs my 4k miles on my S but still. the creaks, rattles and groans is unbelieveable and unbearable. if i'm spending $30+k for a car it better be worth every penny. i know the S chassis is one of the stiffest of any sports cars and i guess i'm a little spoiled but there was no comparisons. he said he's lucky his wife leased it for 3yrs but they never considered the S2K a year ago cause it was a honda. figures!
only cool thing about the car it had a great exhaust note. actual power door locks and the a/c worked great all the time.

Actually i wasnt particularly fond of the Z4 when i test drove one either. I absolutely hate the looks of the exterior, the interior seemed to be ok but not very ergonomical it felt. Power was OK but overall i felt it was very mediocre.

the only thing that sucks about the z4 is the electric power steering system. other than that, the z4 is a cool little car. i personally think the z4 looks cool inside and out, but that's just me. granted the z4 is more compromised than the s2k, but it was meant to be. if you want a pure performance version of the z4, check out the mz4. i bet you after driving the mz4, you'll no longer want your s2k. personally, if i had to choose between a z4 3.0 or an s2k as a daily driver, i'd pick the z4. on the other hand, if i had to choose a weekend car, i'd pick the s2k.

I actually considered both cars before getting the S2000. I've driven BMWs for many years and it was natural for me to look at the Z4. However, with the S2000, I felt I was getting more for my $$. Both cars drove fine to me but the Z4 is a bit "softer", if not more refined. Anyway, I haven't regreted getting a S2000 but the Z4 is definitely not a "$hit of a car".

Some Z4's experience nasty squeaks and rattles which most dealers are incompetent to repair. But you do find Z4's which are perfectly void of such irritations, and make a very decent car IMO.

before i bought the S i drove an 04 with 22k just to see what the car would feel like 2 years later. after driving the 04, i was sold.
