they just released new r/p for the gt4. 4.62. There is another option of all new gears coming Out early next year as well. Just food for thought if it's the only thing holding you back. Just recently sold mine. Great car, loved it long gear and all. Personally loved the long gearing on track.

718 lost weight compared to the 981. You could argue it gained weight since 718 is now a 4 pot vs the 981 which had a 6 though...

But turbo hardware is pretty heavy also... not to mention hotter.

I'd try a 997. I drove a 997.1 C2S and loved it. I dream of the 997 GT3, and with your budget you could get a nice one and not lose much or any money on it, unlike a new Carrera S. I'm sure the GT3 would be far more raw and connected like you are looking for. Just have to put up with the dated interior/tech and relative lack of daily-driver polish (esp. GT3).
How was the 993 experience? Right now I'm debating on getting another s2000 or saving up for my dream car, the 993. I've never driven one though and I really hope it doesn't disappoint.

993RS = my ultimate dream car. The sound of these air-cooled engines is near heaven.

One day...

That is great! Not cheap, but a good fix. Can't believe the stock 2nd goes to 84mph.

May I ask why you sold yours? Anything to do with the car?

It was definitely different from the S2k. 993's steering is so much more alive than the S2k's, and the engine whirring behind you is ever present. It definitely feels more old school and of course the weight distribution makes the driving dynamics unique. It isn't really much faster than the S2k, and the S2k feels quicker and more precise - everything is short and quick compared to the 993, from the steering to the shifter/clutch. Very different experiences. Can't say which I like better (but I do know which one is cheaper, haha).

Bought a plot of land to build a new house and keeping current home as a rental so needed cash + banks wouldn't finance me for a second house construction with another mortgage and Porsche payments for the amount the wife wanted for the new house. Nothing to do with the car.

maybe again in a few years. For now will tinker with my s2000.

Not sure from whom you heard that, but it definitely gained weight.

My 2006 987S weighs 2954 lb
2014 981 Cayman S weighs 3079 lb (per C&D Lightning Lap 2014)
2018 718 Cayman S weighs 3162 lb (per C&D Lightning Lap 2017)

Also, the 718 model has a smaller fuel tank (4-5 gallons smaller) to help give the perception that weight gain was minimal.

That sucks given the mpg didn't really improve.
