2. fix carbon build up $$$$$
3. inspection II $$$

I can't believe you'd want to buy another non-warranty used BMW after you put $28k into a used $14k BMW.

I have ridden in a couple E39 M5's and they are/were sweet rides. I just wouldn't trust the long-term reliability and repair cost. For $30-40k, frankly, I'd get the Pontiac G8 GXP and call it a day.
I can't believe it but I agree. I am a fan of BMW, especially older models, but in this case the Pontiac G8 looks like a pretty good choice. If you want the manual you have to wait for the GXP, but if you are okay with an auto the regular G8 is an option worth looking at for thousands less than you were going to spend on the M5. V8, rear drive, LSD, big interior, big trunk, fun to drive, etc. The G8 is actually a pretty good car for the $30k.

Wow, I was gonna say no way, but 14k miles?
That's practically new!
Sweet car w/ nice color combo.
Sorry you missed it.

Michael,

I thought you had already decided to keep the S2000: http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.php?t=22251&page=3

Just admit it, you're a bimmerhead and need an M5 As long as you don't mind the backseat being a complete mess from food, milk, juice, and vomit from your baby

After you have the baby, if you're still hitting TWS on a regular basis, share me your secrets, b/c I still can't figure how to yet other than the rare (now annual) trackday

I'm not sure how you put 28K into an M3 you bought for 14 unless it was an E30

I probably spent no more than 1 grand in maintenance/mods on my 97 M3 sedan the 2 years I owned it. I would go for a 335i before the E39 M5 at this point.

Stalking me across forums, huh, Tom?

Hey, I'm a car nut. Car nuts change their minds. One day I want to keep the S, the next I want an M5. That's the way it goes.

Interestingly enough, I just got hit with another $1500 bill on the M3 today. It was due for an Inspection II (prorated, because of all of the other work done) and some clutch work, and they also found a leaking fuel tank sender (!) and it really needs a power steering flush.

Again, I've recounted my experiences with my M3 in great detail on this board before.

But, the short story is that I've pretty much done every mechanical system on the car in the past year. Including an engine rebuild. Because it's mostly a track car, I've also done the necessary upgrades (suspension, brakes, etc.) to make it trackable. And, I'm including things like tires and other consumables in that total.

If I buy an M5, it's not going to see the track. Strictly a daily driver and weekend cruiser.

The M3 is the track car. If you show up for a Driver's Edge event, I can now take you for a ride in it... (Red drivers can take passengers again)
