A dyno plot is a dyno plot. Just because a given car lays down a given power number on a dyno does not mean it is faster in real world conditions. There are many other factors that come into play (weight, gearing, tires, etc). The STi hits 100mph in 12.4 seconds, the Legacy GT in 16 !! The Legacy GT runs the 1/4 mile in 14.2 sec. @ 96 mph while the STi does it in 13.2 sec. @ 103 mph. How you only got beat by 1.5 car lengths to 100 mph shall remain a mystery. Perhaps your friend got the accelerator mixed up with the brake pedal in the STi. No one pissed in my cheerios, I am simply realistic in that I know a lightly modded Legacy GT will not "take" a stock STi. Hell, the S2000 is faster than the Legacy GT stock for stock.

It is the same engine.
And the difference in car weight is pretty small.
Assuming both cars have the same turbo installed it will be pretty much a wash

I know they're both 2.5L, but I think that's the only thing the two motors share.
I could be wrong
=)
either way, I know both the LGT and forrester XT have no problem making the same huge power numbers the STI does when you slap on exauhst and big turbos.

from my understanding, the difference is the turbo, tmic, up pipe and the ecu mapping.
of course there are other differences like the exhaust and transmission as well
i think the engine Sti and LGT should have more or less the same MOD POTENTIAL
the weight and transmission should determine the rest (on a straight line )

i'd reccomend a subaru to anyone looking for a reliable car with with good all weather grip. mine's taken 4 years of autocross, spririted driving, track days, etc without any serious problems. by far the cars i've seen break the most parts have been heavily modified. a lot of stock wrx transmissions get broken by abusive drivers.
i've driven a legacy gt and i have to agree its a fun drive. the tranmission and motor work together better than a wrx to provide a much more driveable powerband. i thought the stock suspension could be a tad more agressive, but it was acceptable.

I like my XT, its reliability has been flawless thus far and I have 39,xxx in less than one year. One thing I have noticed is that these 2.5 turbo engines love to make torque.

My buddy is in the market for one. He's getting offers for $100-$300 below invoice.
Don't settle for a penny over invoice...those cars aren't moving off the lots.

The 2.5Ls in the Legacy and the STi are different. The Legacy shares the same engine as the XT.
All 2005 Legacy models feature aluminum, horizontally-opposed SUBARU BOXER engines, 2.5 litre, 250 hp, turbocharged and intercooled SUBARU BOXER in 2.5GT and 2.5GT Limited models.
maybe i misunderstood? but i work at Subaru and that what i was told.
