STi Test Drive
A buddy of mine and I went into a local Subaru dealership last week to test drive an STi. After a brief delay, I was surprised that they agreed without a credit check and all the normal BS. The sales guy said that they had a silver one in stock that he'd pull around. So we get in and he says, "the guy who bought this took it home and his wife didn't like the color and made him return it for a dark grey one." I'm thinking that they must have fkd him over pretty good on the return since this one had roughly 850 miles on it. In any case, we ring it out and the car fails to impress. The body roll was laughable, the brakes were numb and the acceleration wasn't what I expected. The Evo is a much better car IMHO.
So when we get back to the dealership I park it in front and the salesman slips into the drivers seat and drives the car back and parks it--in the service garage! All the pieces fit together--the high mileage (for new), the weird story about the guys wife, the mechanics paper floor mat, the personal trash I found when I opened the ashtray (the salesman also added at the end that this one wouldn't show up in their inventory because 'it was just recently brought in'). Very, very suspicious indeed. Seems to me that we had just test driven a customer 's car who brought it in for servicing. We didn't beat the hell out of it, but we drove it hard and bounced off the rev limiter a couple times, but here's yet another reason to never bring your car in to a dealer for servicing.
