Default SSC Ultimate Aero II revealed

http://pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=22627

This is the part that sorta bugs me: Overall, SSC's latest creation will almost double the power to weight ratio of the Veyron.x

What most idiots who say how the SSC is a better car blah blah blah it's faster blah blah blah don't realize that the damn thing has MORE POWER and weighs almost half as much as the Veyron, and only does 6MPH more.

They Veyron in my opinion is still the best car for speed and power, getting 2 tons of car to move that fast is insane, so to me this isn't that remarkable.

Weight has a negligible effect on top speed.

If this thing really does have twice the power to weight ratio of the Veyron though, its 0-100/150 times should be insane.

Oh, I read something else. 275 is their "targeted" speed, they still haven't done the test yet. I would die of laughter if the thing didn't beat the Veryon SS

In 07 they had a theoretical top speed of 272, and they only acheived 256, so I can just imagine this one.

So how long are we going to see these 2 companies go at it? Bugatti claimed their supersports wasn't made to take back the top speed record from Shelby, but according to an article I read on the supersports, the only thing it's really good for is going fast. You can't track it, it's not a grand touring car as there is negligible trunk space, and you can't daily drive it for obvious reasons. I'm sure the same applies to this new Shelby, and while this kind of competition is healthy as it innovates new technology, is it really necessary?

The bugatti is the fastest around Top Gear's test track, haha. I'm sure it can track perfectly fine.

The only affect weight has on top speed is the friction it generates within the driveline/engine components and the tires(pretty much negligible as S2k007 said, although there is something to be said for rolling resistance which is dependent on weight). Drag is the real thing limiting top speed.

That's just what I read. According to the article, they said that the brakes wouldn't be able to handle the heat from repeated braking to slow down from the high speeds. I think they were referring more to a Sebring-like track with more turns than long straights.

Ah, okay. So basically weight will only help it get their faster? Less mass to move?

Pretty much. It's like the Murcielago [some letters and numbers] SV. If you get one without the wing, it's faster than with it because the wing creates more drag.

Yea, I figured that from the new body of the Veyron SS being so "slippery"
