original NSX.
really ultra low mileage CR.
low mileage integra TypeR.
honda s600 or s800.
air cooled 911.
final gen turbo supra.
first gen M3.
BMW 1M.
ALL CARS above WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION. if you buy any of these with an automatic, you might as well burn your cash. " listen to me now and believe me later." hans/franz

Of this list most are manual only. 911, NSX the only ones available with auto?

911 would be the easiest for me to own, just convincing my girlfriend I won't become a "Porsche Driver" by owning one. One of biggest Porsche indy repair shops on East Coast is 2 miles from my house. She thought my buddy's 991 was beautiful and lamented when he traded it in for 350GT (as did I). Shelby is certainly nice...

I don't like the idea of buying an extremely low mileage and mint car if it's going to be used rather than sit in a garage. You're either going to use it and destroy value quickly (possibly depreciating it even faster than you would a well-used model), not use it at all because you don't want it to accumulate miles/wear, or use it but feel guilty and uptight every time.

A friend of mine bought a VERY nice, low-mile '04 S2k. It was showroom condition. But he wanted a car to drive and track, and found himself never doing so because it was "too nice." He even asked to track my S2k for that reason. When you're asking someone to drive a car essentially identical to the one you already have because you feel guilty driving yours, that's a problem.

In the end, he sold after a couple months and due to the crazy good deal he got, he made like $4-5k after taxes.

IMO the best "investment cars," which in this case I read as "cars you can enjoy and drive without losing much on depreciation," are the ones in my list (NSX, Elise, E39 M5, 997, S2k, C5 Z06) because they sell for pretty high amounts regardless of miles.

the last year of the final gen USDM supra - 1994 i believe- only came with 4 spd auto.
My point is, cars with a manual transmission- on balance- command a higher resale price. So, only buy manuals if you want to realize a higher sell price on the tail end.

Totally agree. Was just trying to say most don't even have an auto option.

The only thing that might hold it's value is a NSX but you may have trouble getting a nice one for 50K. You can't get an investment grade E30 M3 for 50K.

What are you thoughts on the Maserati GranTurismo 4.7's, like the Stradale or Convertible? I think they too will have a bottom end price.

GTR's don't seem to be dropping much. I've been looking at buying one lately.

Is there a reason you're calling it an 'investment'? I would think it better to actually invest the money you have.
