For the record, who here considers being cut off when someone pulls in front of you and you have to brake, and not someone merging too close to you but going faster so you don't have to brake?

Are they different? Are they both "cutting off" manuevers?

I consider an unexpected lane change into my lane that forces me to brake quite abruptly lest an accident occur, to be cutting me off. This is how I've always understood it.

I have a friend though that seems to think anyone passing into his chosen lane at almost any time, regardless of how benelvolent and lawful it may be, constitutes an act of "cutting him off".

Having just been cut off a few minutes ago, I want to post to this subject. An aggressive driver in a Jeep 3.7 ended up next to me at a light. He punched in when the light turned green. I started passing him in second gear but he didn't see me pulling on him and merged into my land just as I was getting ready to pass. Luckily I was able to move into one more open lane. I hate I that I stooped to his level. I have to be more careful out there and not let people like that get me going.
