I hope Mugenized Honda cars will become a norm in the future. If Honda can't make turbos, superchargers, or V8s, hopefully with the Mugen badge, they can get around dumb rules that like (like the Acura RDX).

Making power isn't hard. Make street legal power is the trick. Put those mugen race cars on pump gas with emissions technology and make it a requirement they run for 100k miles and see how much power they make.

How do you know Mugen can't? The company has always been a small aftermarket sector, not factory-production unit. Until it becomes part of a production sector, no one can judge its engineers. Maybe some of its engineers are quite geniuses. Who knows?!!

Both Mugen and Honda can do it. But neither seem to care to Mugen is able to utilize the Honda parts bin. But much like Honda's reasoning, Mugen won't do it because they didn't have the will to. Many other USDM/JDM aftermarket companies churn out products with more performance than Mugen simply b/c of economics and they race their S2000s. While Mugen dabbles with certain Honda cars, their priorities are centered in building engines for LeMans racecars and Formula Nippon cars. Which means Mugen isn't going to waste time making better parts for production cars and we get emblems instead.

As an example, Mugen produced a 2.2L stroker kit for the AP1 S2000 in 2001. But they never released the kit except for one engine to King Motorsports. Perhaps they held off knowing the US would release the 2.2L engine in 2004 and worldwide in 2006.

I'm not arguing that they can or can't. I was just responding to the post about how there racing engines make tons of power. Everyone's racing engines make tons of power...that isn't the point. I hope it turns out well. I would love to see honda offer something from the factory a little more exciting then their recent offerings.

I agree, I hope Mugen can offer some improvements to Honda more along the lines of what AMG has done to Mercedes. My gut feeling is that it won't. If the recent offerings from Mazdaspeed and Nismo are an indication of what may come Honda's way, then prepared to be disappointed in the power-department.

Ultimately, the buck stops at the bean counters.
