There is a difference between impeding traffic and safe group riding. Most of the guys I see group riding on sport bikes are all over the place passing left, right, cutting in between cars. I think these guys (in your situation) were just being jerks, but you never know.

I have a great deal of experience in group riding 3 to 20 or more bikes, and the correct method is to use the center lane if available (three or more lanes). That way other cars can enter and exit the highway and also pass the group on the left as normal. The group should be riding in a staggered formation with 1 sec of distance between the next rider and 2 seconds from the rider directly in front of them. They keep the speed down on purpose, if the front rider is doing 65, the tail of the formation sometimes needs to do like 85 to catch up. So for the most part you will not see groups riding much faster than 55 or 60.

The formation is supposed to be kept tight to discourage cars from breaking the groups ranks. But sometimes this is unavoidable. If the highway is only two lanes the bikes should be in the left lane.

On a single lane road a group will use the same formation and unfortunately sometimes other vehicles do get stuck behind the group, but you must remember that the bikes have just as much right to the road as the cars.

Another thing to remember is that all riders in the group may not be as experienced and do not feel comfortable with a fast pace. The leader of the group must keep the safety of ALL the riders in his/her group in mind and match their skills.

As for Harley riders revving their engines, that is an affliction that also affects sport bike riders, so Nik suck my exhaust pipe.

When encountering a group of bikes, drivers should take extra precautions just like you would if you encounters other slow vehicles (like a military convoy).

Shut up kimchi boy

On a serious note, i think we are only getting part of the story here. Either way, ****ing with bikers is a good way to get a windshield full of change or metal balls. FYI>

I always move over for overtaking traffic, car or bike. But as long as we're hating, how about those rolling parades of 10+ cruisers? Man do I hate those clods. The line is too long to make use of gaps in other lanes and some of them ride so poorly (or side-by-side, duh!) I don't want to spook 'em as I work my way by.
