Aisin, not Mazda, manufactures the gearboxes.
I stand corrected. I have always heard that laid out as conventional wisdom.

We'll let it slide this one time. However, one more mistake and you'll be banned.

Miatas are great, SW20 MR2s have a nice feel to them as well. I also second that the mustangs have great shifter feel, the current gen has a great feel right off the showroom floor, preferred it to the 370z. The stangs have a rifle bolt, mechanical feel to them, the 370Z is very short and smooth, but feels like the bushings are made of cheese as it feels kinda rubbery.
S2k def one of the best ones out there, worst was the new edge mustang v6 (same gen as the cobras everyone is loving, but man the v6 models are horrible), overrated is BMW (good but too long and kinda rubbery, but very effortless and smooth), underrated current gen mustang.

well, i didnt think all that much of the S transmission or should we be saying shifter? this was coming from a 92 accord which was slightly modified...boy I didnt know how smooth that shifter was, but now after a mtf2 refill and fully bleeding the clutch, im beginning to understand and appreciate the S tranny, although sometimes I would describe it as a tad finnicky.

Historically I think Mazda made the 5 spds and Aisin made the 6spds. I thought the new Miata 6spd was also Mazda unit.

Out of all the cars that I have driven with manual transmissions, which includes but is not limited to an '08 Dodge Viper SRT10 roadster and an '08 Nissan 350Z coupe, I'll give the S2000 the nod as far as having the best gearbox I've encountered thus far goes.
But compared to the cars aforementioned, the S2K feels very under powered.

S2000 has the best stock shifter I've experienced. Modified, I prefer the MGW shifter in my '08 C6. It's short and like the bolt-action of a very expensive rifle.
