the only thing I'm disappointed with is the looks - not as good looking as the last one.

Mainly the looks, especially the front end treatment. Changes the character from mean and muscled but still damn good looking, to "look at me, look how rough and mean I look!" The torque curve is a bit odd. And although I know this is silly, given that it's a M-B (and the trend in general), it would be nice to have a manual trans to play with all that power.

I do like how it was (sort of) described as finally a sportscar though. And I'm not saying it's a lousy car or that I'd refuse one, just disappointing.

I agree. I thought the '08 car was beautiful. The '09 cosmetic updates do nothing for me. The design no longer looks cohesive. Almost like they tacked a new, angular nose onto an older, smoother design. Go figure. It also sounds like the old powertrain may have actually suited the car better. I don't think the SL should be a sports car. I think it should be an unabashed GT. Leave the Nurburgring times to the boy racers. The lower torque curve and greater output may better suit the SL. I'm not sure SL drivers want to be "more involved" with their cars than hitting the gas and feeling an immediate surge. With that said, I really like SLs. I certainly love their depreciation curves. I may pick up an '08 or earlier SL55 or SL550 someday. I am, actually, still thinking about buying the previous gen., R129, SL600.

Hm...I kinda liked where MB is going with design when I saw new GL and C class but this SL....hmm it looks kinda like transformer.
Maybe it's the color.

i've driven both the v8 kompressor and 6.3L v8 powerplant...and i prefer the supercharged engine much more...i hope MB goes back to FI with their AMG's again soon.

of course there's the v12 bi-turbo but that thing is supernatural, and so is the price.

The 6.2L powerplant is probably on its way out being replaced by a smaller FI motor. Though the older 55K motors were fun to drive, they were about 10 years old and needed to be replaced with something updated (something with more than 3 valves per cylinder).

The use a SL63 as the F1 pace car, and it looks amazing. Very impressive how fresh this basic design has stayed for MB, even before this facelift, these are still some of the best looking and most contemporary cars on the road.
