Sick of $500 Payment, Spending Approximately $16K!
If you guys don't mind right now I drive a 2007 G35 coupe that's really just too expensive to maintain, not fun enough to drive, and I'm sick of the $515 car payment every month in this economy. I just want something cheaper, so I'm going to pay down car loan with tax return money and get something more affordable, better in all seasons, etc.
My commute is about 6 minutes per day each way so that's not terribly concerning for me at this point. Just being honest with myself.
I am looking at, all in pearl white:
'05 Acura MDX - because I know I wouldn't heavily mod it, and because it's practical for my 2 dogs, and since I recently bought a house, etc.
'05 Acura TL - because my Dad has one and I know they're great great cars, good all around, good acceleration, etc. I would probably get this in a 6-speed
'04-'05 Acura RL - simply because they're a little more uncommon, and still the same body style that carried all the way until this year
Of if there are any other suggestions I would consider pretty much anything, preferably Japaneses but European also, no domestic. Something reliable, good looks, etc.

Are you getting rid of the G35, then? Seems like this only makes sense if you are getting rid of the Infiniti.
First-gen. MDX drives exactly like a minivan. My mom has one. I'd stay away. Used FX35s can be had cheap, I think.
Not sure what kind of dogs you have. That could complicate your decision. The '07 FX35 that I drive actually belongs to my dog. She just lets me drive the damn thing. If the dogs are not your primary concern, what about a Civic Si sedan? Cobalt SS sedan?

Spending 16k? It looks to me like these would cost about the same to maintain as a G35 coupe. I say pick up a FIT. Its allegedly the most fun car under 20k.

looks like you want a "nice" car,........id suggest a 03-04 evo as they can be had for that price now.
if you want a suv there is too much in that price range.
you could pick up a new civic si around that price too......but something tells me you are out of the civic stage if you are looking at the family sedans.

You do realize you'd get screwed selling your G35 w/ the car market in the tank, right? Get a real-world assessment of what kind of depreciation hit you'd take before you waste too much time shopping.
