Should I get an ILX or an ATS

Nah, I mean I could live with it. My highest priority is to have something that isn't going to be a pain in the butt. The Acura checks that box. But it's just not exciting. I could live with dull, I'm just not crazy about it. If the ATS ends up not checking out, I'm just not sure what else I'd be interested in that is a pseudo luxury car that isn't going to piss me off with a repair bill every six months (like every BMW owner I know).

Also suggesting looking at a mazda 6.
We've had a 2007 mazda3 base and a 2013 mazdaspeed3. both have nice, light steering and even the base one felt fairly sporty, probably akin to the civic/ILX.

Okay, let's say I'm more open-minded to other cars. Bearing in mind that I want something that is a premium brand, what do you suggest?
I was thinking about it and I came to the conclusion that if I could pay an extra $5k and have an ILX be faster, I'd be willing to do that. But if that's the case, maybe I'd be willing to buy a riskier car (like a BMW) for the same money, and then just give myself a $5k budget of "oh shit, the transmission blowed up" money.
With that in mind, any suggestions?

VW Golf GTI? (somewhat risky)
Accord Sport 6MT? (not risky at all)

Reading back through the thread it sounds like:
-spending $30k
-Need a car that projects the Professional image, and that is not a BMW (you alluded to pulling up to a client house whose spouse just died as your profession)
-CPO or new
So to me, that pretty much rules out BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus.
Leaving you with a "higher end" American or Japanese model. Hence the ATS?
If thats the case, I like the idea of the Hyundai Genesis sedan. Father in law has a fully loaded one (way more than $30k) and its pretty damn nice.
Or something like a used Volvo s60 would be sweet.
And it sounds like the image you need to project might be more important than having a more sports-oriented car that's fun to drive.
