VW = rattle city.
My Jetta GLI rattles like a metal cage on an old pickup truck. It doesn't even have 10000 miles on it! The Golf TDI rattles less, probably due to softer suspension and taller tires. At least it gets decent mileage.
I am done with VWs. Can't wait for the day I get the S.

your car rattles, therefore VW is rattle city?
Had a VR6 with 268 cams and hardened mounts... not a single rattle... then again... the only problem I ever had involved a window.
Before that I had another modded VR6 (Jetta).. mostly suspension wise... again.. not a problem, not a rattle...
My stepsister has a 01 Jetta with 60k on it... living in bumpy as hell Puerto Rico... again... not a single problem...
Your isolated problem.. shouldn't mean that VW is crap.
Try out a 911 with the full leather package... prepare to hear creaks and what not everywhere.. you don't hear people say it sucks..
Better yet, try an M3 convertible... see if you can live with the top noises for even 5 minutes.. I haven't heard the screaming complaints..

the GTi can grow on me, but im most def a Honda head. The reliability of the car out takes everything else in my mind. sure you can buy a used EP3 and throw a turbo kit on it and make it as fast if not faster than the GTi, i love the simplicity of HONDA its all RAW and nothing more than what is needed- IMO.
i wrote more but deleted it i dont want to start any big debate, ^ just my opinion

There's not a chance in hell that the EP3 Si insipired the redesigned GTI. If anything can be said about German designs, it's that they are original and often imitated.
Here are some pics of my '02 Si. It's a great daily driver that handles like a go cart with the right mods. If it only had the K20A2...
Here are my mods:
Mugen Sport Suspension
O.Z. Superturismo GT (16x7)
Bridgestone Potenza RE750 205/50WR16
Comptech 22mm Rear Sway Bar/Tie Bar
Hawk HPS Street Brake Pads
PowerSlot Rotors (front)
