Some things I didn't like, are the sunglass holder by the sunroof control rattled when I went over bumps, which I'm hoping is a fluke with the car I drove. Also when you have the sunroof open it's very loud in the cabin. It's like the air is not going over the sunroof but being drawn into the rear seats of the car and causing this loud whooosh sound. The wheel gap is rediculous. (see pic) I think mod #1 for every buyer should be suspension.
I'd say the "S" mode on the tranny is pretty much good for a canyon run.. its very rev happy.
The one rant I have is the bluetooth phone button.. with no bluetooth option for the car. I REALLY hope they address that soon.

I like both cars, but I don't think the EP Si had any bearing whatsoever on VW's net GTI.
VW has a very long hatch history, and the new one plays off the styling of the old one. It's like pickup trucks: they all generally look big, heavy and tough. Hatches have a specific look too so they're hard to copy. About the most unique hatchback ever was the S52/54 BMW Z/M coupe.
