Remember, get the best porsche you can afford. You don't want to be cutting corners with these cars.
And the 996's being largley unreliable is an urban legened. Yes, very few 99 996s did suffer from RMS failure, but then again it was the lightest 996, and came with the LSD option.

You'll be happy with any that you've listed because both are great performance cars. However, will you be able to live without the convertible and pay more for general maintenance?

I sold my daily driver S2000 and weekend NSX 3 months ago after the same debate (should I or shouldn't I). For various reasons, despite my long love affair with these Hondas, I finally decided to do it.
A Cayman S replaces the Stook and a 997TT is on order to replace the NSX. The new generation P-cars are fantastic. The sounds these cars make are amazing. The performance is even better! And better yet, Porsche beat Lexus in JD Power this year.
