Sell AP2 for E90 M3?
#32
I have S2000 and had BMW 335i at the same time (with m3 modified suspension). I always services BMW at AutoCouture Motoring NJ which specialized on BMW and especially M3.
I've driven E92 M3 (not mine) for couple hours total (and on track too).
Couple of things I learned for myself.
BMW is really expensive car service-wise. I'm not talking about oil change only. M3 is even more expensive than the one I had.
They all have problems; not saying that it's a low quality car it's but just simplicity of S2000 vs. complexity of BMW.
If you decide to get M3 - get DCT. Really. I heard so many times about 3 pedals and when I drove DCT, it just amazed me.
Recently I started bringing my S2000 to ACM for service. And I will tell you this Everytime they take may car in and out, they want to swap with me for a day.
And owner of ACM actually owns S2000 and says it's his garage queen besides the fact he owns M3 oriented shop and owns ESS-650 Supercharged E92 M3
M3 is a very nice car in and out. But it's much less fun that S2000, believe me. You will enjoy it for sure, but as you said, almost every former s2k owner regrets selling it. I'm almost in the same position right now but just decided to keep it. Financially it doesn't eat any money and I rarely drive it. But it always puts stupid smile on my face unlike any other car I've driven.
It probably doesn't help a lot, but that's what I'm thinking.
P.S. on a side note. 4.0 V8 that goes to 8200 RPM is really amazing, but it really lacks some torque against competitors.
335i with bolt-ons and JB chip would eat stock M3 from dead stop all day long. And all my mods all together were under 2K. But again - very problematic car.

Thank you all for your posts, comments, advice, and personal experiences. After much thought, some lost sleep, and a flight across the country later... I did end up w/ an E90 6-speed. Couldn't be happier! As such, I've the S up for sale here: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/103...rl-281k-miles/
Wish it didn't have to be this way, but it would just be irresponsible for me to keep them both!

*flam suit on* I know this is hard to say to the s2k community and this is just IMO. It is a very machismo thing to say... that being said, at a certain point with enough $$$ you want to get in to the ring with the big boys. Its something I didn't realize until I stepped out of 5 years with 2 s2ks. You really can't beat s2k bang for the buck but when you reach high powered v8 cars or TT v6 cars with double the output of the s2k and only a few pounds heavier the game changes. Now are they practical? No. But since when do american's abide by practical?

Haha... to that point, I originally started looking at 6-speed CTS-V wagons... hauls ass, and hauls a lot of shtuff. But, in order to do that, I'd have to haul a lot of $$$ outta the bank to get one! Even used, they're still north of $50K.
Also thought about the idea of selling this S and getting a cheap AP1. But for that matter, I'd almost rather snap up a Honda Grom for the same amount of giggles, for even less $!

I recently sold my Z4M and bought an E92 M3 because I need more seats and I am not disappointed. The M3 is definitely comfortable, quiet, and spacious in comparison. But after setting the M drive and getting used to the weight the car can hold its own. Your best bet is to keep both but you will not be disappointed if you can only have the M3.
