Default seeking pics of old school wheels

I remember back in the early 90s there was a wheel design that I thought looked absolutely SIIIIICK. Of course, I was much younger then, and these wheels probably weighed a ton and killed performance... however, at the time I thought they were the most original, clean design I had ever seen, and had the price tag to show for it.

They were 5-spoke in design, but the spokes were short, stout cylinders. These cylinders had a removable outer layer that was then painted to match the body color of the car.

Does anyone remember these? Any pics anywhere on the web?

/aside-- I guess Fittipaldi wheels-- and the Fittipaldi brand-- aren't as popular anymore, as I can't really find any wheels made under that name on the web.

I think you're talking about the old Tubolares. They're by Fittipaldi.

similar, except much simpler and cleaner. the center part was more simple, round-- almost like a mini-rim/hub-- and from it were 5 cylinders that connected to the outer rim. the cylinders were perhaps 1.5-2" in diameter, body colored. looked absolutely sick in red, on a red car.

OMG! I think I remember liking those rims...but you're right, we grow up and our tastes change...they were MOMO wheels, right??

that's much closer, yes-- but only a single stout cylinder, not pairs. those pairs look lame. and simpler, elegant, clean lines.

thinking about them makes me want to have someone custom build them for me!
